WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Dental
implants are artificial substitutes to replace the root portion of
teeth. They are firmly attached into the jawbone and under the gums
in the mouth through minor surgery, and provide a foundation for a
replacement tooth or teeth. Dental implants are used to help people
who are missing teeth to be able to chew more comfortably and give you the
look and feel of natural teeth.
There
are two basic types of dental implants: those that are placed into the
bone and those that rest on top of the bone. Your dentist must
evaluate your specific situation and help you decide which type of dental
implant is best for you.
